This event is part of European Maritime Day In My Country 2025 and will take place at the “Severino Ferrari” Municipal Library in Molinella (BO) on September 26, 2025 (see: https://ambiente.regione.emilia-romagna.it/it/notizie/notizie/2025/distretto-pianura-est-la-rassegna-clima-comune). Camilla Palmiotto (CNR-ISMAR) will open the event with a seminar introducing key topics related to ocean literacy. This will be followed by the screening of a documentary filmed and produced by the CNR aboard the Italian Research Vessel Gaia Blu during the “Ifigenia” cruise (August 2024).
Our planet is shaped by both living and non-living elements. The term geodiversity (the variety of non-living components of the Earth) is a relatively recent concept in Earth sciences, while biodiversity (the diversity of living organisms) has long been a central focus of biological sciences. Biodiversity is strongly influenced by the environment in which plant and animal species thrive. The documentary “IFIGENIA: viva la geobiodiversità!” explores the connections between geodiversity and biodiversity, highlighting their interdisciplinary interplay. By showcasing this relationship, the film emphasizes how advancing our understanding of marine environments is essential for protecting and preserving the biodiversity of our planet.
