Beakon S1_GB
The S1-GB station is one of two meteo-oceanographic monitoring sites managed by ISMAR along the Romagna coast, near the Po Delta. Originally deployed as the S1 buoy in 2003 at a depth of 22.5 meters, approximately 4 nautical miles south of the Po di Goro outlet, the station became a permanent installation in March 2004 following a successful test phase.
Upgraded in 2015, the S1-GB station transitioned from a semi-mobile buoy to a fixed elastic “meda” structure, enhancing its monitoring capabilities. This transition also marked its renaming to S1-GB. Now, the station comprises a weather station and a submerged mooring line with oceanographic instruments at two depth levels (-2.5 m and -18.5 m).
Located in a pivotal area influenced by the Po River, the S1-GB station provides valuable data for studying interactions between the Po River and the Upper Adriatic Sea, representing typical continental shelf conditions. It continuously collects oceanographic, meteorological, and biogeochemical data essential for physical and biological modelling in the northern Adriatic.
System features include:
- Real-time logging and transmission.
- 12 and 24 VDC power supplies.
- A comprehensive meteorological station.
- A dual winch system with instruments at two depth levels (including CTD probes, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll, turbidity, and CDOM sensors, and ADCP).
Periodic sampling of biological, chemical, and oceanographic parameters supplements the continuous data collection. The S1-GB station also contributes data to European research infrastructures eLTER-RI, DANUBIUS-RI, and JERICO-RI within the Upper Adriatic macrosite.
