Program: DG MARE/2012/25 – Project on Maritime Spatial Planning in theMediterranean Sea and/or the Black Sea
Project Title: Adriatic Ionian maritime spatial planning
Acronym: ADRI-PLAN
Duration: 2013-2015
Total Budget: € 1.250.000
Sito web: http://adriplan.eu/
Project Overview:
ADRIPLAN set out to develop a shared, cross-border approach to Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) across the Adriatic-Ionian Macroregion. Focusing on two key areas, the Northern Adriatic and the Southern Adriatic/Northern Ionian, the project aimed to harmonize MSP implementation through collaborative efforts among institutional partners, observers, and key stakeholders.
Grounded in the principles of the EU’s Integrated Maritime Policy, ADRIPLAN proposed an ecosystem-based approach to MSP. This included aligning with EU marine and maritime directives, such as the ICZM Protocol for the Mediterranean and the proposed ICZM-MSP Directive (COM(2013)133 final). The project delivered detailed proposals and recommendations to foster cross-border MSP implementation, ensuring decisions were based on the best available knowledge and the active involvement of stakeholders.
Key Objectives:
• Establish a shared framework for MSP across the Adriatic-Ionian region.
• Promote an ecosystem-based approach to maritime and coastal planning.
• Provide actionable recommendations for transboundary MSP implementation.
• Align with EU policies and directives on marine and maritime issues.
Focus Areas:
• Northern Adriatic
• Southern Adriatic/Northern Ionian
