ECOREST II – Cruise Report
Abstract:
ECOREST II followed the ECOREST cruise and aimed at exploring and monitoring the deep marine ecosystems of the southern Tyrrhenian Sea, in the Gulf of Naples. These habitats have been documented and sampled with a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). An active and passive restoration strategy have been implemented for deep coral habitats, removing marine litter with the ROV and installing 3D-printed Artificial Reef Structures (ARS) to promote the settlement and recruitment of new corals. Additionally, deep-water observational systems have been installed at
each site.
ECOREST II took part on board the CNR R/V Gaia Blu, starting on the 12th July at 18.00 from the Port of Naples and finishing on the 22nd July at 08:00 at the Port of Naples
