Hydrological Transects

Several hydrologic transects are regularly repeated to monitor oceanographic variables of interest.

Corsica Channel
A hydrological transect between Italy and Corsica is conducted twice a year, during maintenance of the current meter chain. This location is close to cross-overs of Topex, Jason, and ERS satellite height tracks and has been used to calibrate these height tracks.

Sicily Channel
A hydrological transect between Sicily and Tunisia is repeated biannually, coinciding with maintenance of the current meter chain.
