Towards integrated ecosystem management of the Venice Lagoon: researchers and decision-makers exchange views

The workshop “Research priorities and operational tools for an ecosystem-based management of the Venice Lagoon“, promoted by ISPRA, CNR-ISMAR and CORILA, was held at the CNR-ISMAR headquarters in Venice.
The initiative represented a moment of confrontation between Authorities, Universities, Research Institutes and strategic stakeholders of the lagoon territory, with the aim of outlining together applied research priorities, functional to the integrated management of the delicate and complex lagoon ecosystem.
During the first day of work, the round table stimulated two moments of discussion between representatives of the Authorities and Bodies involved, promoting dialogue between researchers and public decision-makers on the needs and strategies to face current and future challenges.
The second day was dedicated to technical-scientific interactions, organised in working groups, which shared experiences, knowledge and visions, with a view to a significant strengthening of synergies, for the enhancement of new observational and predictive capabilities, promoting an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach.
The path started does not end here: all the actors involved were invited to actively contribute to the next steps, in order to transform the ideas that emerged into concrete actions for the benefit of the lagoon, the community and the ecosystem.
