We are pleased to inform you that on June 17 and 18, at the CNR-ISMAR headquarters in Venice, the conference “The Research Infrastructure DiSSCo-Italy and the PNRR ITINERIS project: advancements, results, and prospects” will be held.
Through the digitization of natural science collections (NSC), i.e., the transformation of physical specimens into digital specimens, the harmonization and publication of associated data following the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), the DiSSCo (The Distributed System of Scientific Collections) research infrastructure aims to virtually integrate the naturalistic collections preserved in museums, botanical gardens, research institutes, and universities into a single European portal.
The event is an important opportunity to present the main results achieved by the DiSSCo Research Infrastructure Operational Units as part of the PNRR ITINERIS (Italian Integrated Environmental Research Infrastructures System) Project. In order to enhance the potential impact of IR-DiSSCo’s activities in terms of scientific innovation, data integration, knowledge and protection of biodiversity, and technological development, while promoting synergies between research institutions and infrastructures, museums, and stakeholders, the conference will also feature a forum for discussion on the future prospects of the DiSSCo-Italy node at the national and European level.
The invitation is specifically addressed to the various actors involved in the management, enhancement, and study of naturalistic scientific collections, both terrestrial and aquatic.

Please note that the number of places in person is limited and the deadline for registration in person is June 6, 2025. These registrations will be confirmed at a later date, depending on the number of requests received.
