Started the educational program 2024-2025 of Biodiversity Gateway: joint project between CNR-ISMAR & Ocean Space

Venice, Nov. 8, 2024 – The educational program of the Biodiversity Gateway project, created as part of the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC), a PNRR-funded initiative coordinated by the National Research Council (NRC), has officially begun (program page). In partnership with Ocean Space, the program aims to raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity among schools, educators, and students through innovative and multidisciplinary educational pathways for the 2024/2025 school year.

The inaugural event is the webinar “Semi-born. The beauty of biodiversity,” which was held on Nov. 8, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The webinar was attended by experts and researchers, including Mario Sprovieri, Director of CNR-ISMAR, Valeria Bottalico, Education Manager of Ocean Space/TBA21, Marta Picciulin, CNR-ISMAR researcher for Gateway activities, and Prof. Ferdinando Boero, internationally renowned zoologist. The goals of the Biodiversity Gateway project and the educational mission of the Ocean Schools program, which integrates science, education, and art to bring educators and students closer to the teaching and protection of biodiversity, were presented.

In upcoming meetings, the program will offer additional insights, beginning with a focus on the Long-Term Ecosystem Research (LTER) network and its role in biodiversity conservation, by Director Giorgio Matteucci. This multidisciplinary approach aims to make biodiversity a central theme in educational pathways, promoting a concrete commitment to its conservation.

The initiative represents an extraordinary opportunity for schools, teachers and educators to collaborate with experts in the field and inspire a new generation of conscious citizens, ready to protect and enhance the natural heritage of our planet.
