The Micro-World of the Karst. Trieste from 22/11/25 to 11/01/2026

Photographic Exhibition

Shapes and colors hidden in the rocks

The exhibition brings together a large collection of photographs, information panels, and exhibition content that illustrate the richness of the fossil micro-world found within the rocks that make up the karst landscape, with the aim of promoting sustainable tourism, cultural cooperation, and environmental protection. The installations will accompany visitors through a series of images of rocks under the microscope, obtained using geological techniques. The illustrations present wonderful plays of light and show fascinating microfossils inside them. A section of the exhibition area is also dedicated to the UNESCO candidacy of Karst stone as a Heritage Stone.

The exhibition is organized as part of the Interreg Italy-Slovenia project “Joint management and sustainable development of the classic Karst area – Kras-Carso II” in collaboration with the Municipality of Trieste.

Organizers:

  • The Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, through the Geological Service of the Central Directorate for Environmental Protection, Energy, and Sustainable Development, is responsible for the protection and enhancement of geodiversity, geological and speleological heritage, and karst areas, as well as the management of the Classic Karst Regional Geopark.
