Summary:
Copernicus Marine provides an accurate and homogeneous description of the global ocean circulation, physics and marine environment (sea ice, ecosystems). The main objectives are the (i) Service Evolution, defining short-term coordinated evolutions of the service and participate in the medium/long-term vision; (ii) Product Quality methodologies, metrics and Indicators, and (iii) Observational data networks that are needed for the analysis and forecasting systems. The Global Reanalysis ensemble Product (GREP), that is the main scope of GLORAN-Lot1 is the design of a place in the Multi Year Product (MYP) of Global Monitoring and Forecasting Center and it falls into different categories:

  • Long Ocean MYP, that start earlier than 1980 and use specific technical choices made to optimize the representation of large scales and trends in the ocean (climate scale, new product not yet on the catalogue)
  • Eddy-permitting Ocean MYP focus on the optimization of small scale (mesoscale, interannual scale) fluctuations and span the “altimetric era” 1993-present. These products are the basis for Ocean Monitoring Indicators (OMIs) and ocean state reporting activities.
