Summary:
The goal of the project is to create a QA framework that encompasses past, present, and future Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) instruments, rather than focusing on a single mission or sensor. This ensures that the developed procedures and tools will be widely applicable, adaptable, and future-proof.
Another of the main objectives of the present ESA ITT is to consolidate, harmonize and expand the QA procedures defined after the past ESA EDAP and EDAP+projects. In this regard, not only procedures, but also guidelines for uncertainty in measurement (GUM) and fiducial reference measurements (FRM) must be
addressed for Level 1 (L1) products and SAR-derived geophysical products (also known as L2 products).
Another objective is the development of an open-source tool for Cal/Val of L1 and L2 SAR products, following guidelines and definitions during the first phase of the project.
Finally, CANVAS addresses the need for cross-calibration and cross-validation between different SAR missions. The aim is to facilitate interoperability and utilize data from multiple sources by
developing standardized procedures for comparing and validating data across various SAR missions.
