Title: CNR-ISMAR Annual Report 2024

Introduction
The Institute of Marine Sciences (CNR-ISMAR) stands at the forefront of marine and climate research, advancing knowledge across physical, chemical, and biological oceanography, as well as marine geology.

Our mission is to deepen the understanding of ocean processes and climate variability while developing innovative systems and services to monitor, protect, and sustainably manage marine and coastal environments.

Headquartered in the historic city of Venice, ISMAR extends its presence across Italy with six branch offices located in Bologna, Lerici (SP), Naples, Florence, Rome, and Trieste. This nationwide network strengthens our research capabilities, fostering collaboration and enhancing our contributions to regional, national, and international scientific initiatives.

ISMAR’s research activities are supported by a robust and integrated observational system, combining fixed and mobile platforms, including state-of-the-art oceanographic vessels, sensor-equipped buoys, coastal monitoring stations, and autonomous underwater vehicles. Our laboratories and expertise in numerical modeling enable us to collect, process, and analyze real-time data, providing critical insights into oceanic and climatic processes.

This Annual Report highlights the key achievements, groundbreaking discoveries, and collaborative efforts undertaken by ISMAR in 2024. Through interdisciplinary research, technological innovation, and global partnerships, ISMAR continues to pave the way for a sustainable future for our oceans and society
