Biodiversity Gateway lands in Gargano

Biodiversity Gateway activities are underway this month at 42 elementary school classes in Ischitella, Carpino, Cagnano Varano, and Lesina, in the province of Foggia.

The researchers brought the project in this area, developed and tested in the schools around the Venice Lagoon. Here are the Varano and Lesina lagoons, two important biodiversity hotspots in the Adriatic. The involvement of more than 800 students from Puglia is important to give a national spray to the Gateway activity, and test the Biodiversity Gateway educational activities in different sociocultural contexts, to understand the educational needs of children, and test the effectiveness of the proposals.

Students actively participate in the research: thanks to them we can have a more complete picture of the perception of biodiversity in Italy, analyze and understand perceptions regarding lagoon biodiversity, and in general of the environments in which we live. We are collecting important data to better understand educational needs and difficulties in communicating science, with the aim of improving ministerial programs, towards better environmental and biodiversity education: to form aware and responsible citizens able to protect and enhance ecosystems for future generations.
