The event will provide an opportunity to bring together the Italian community active in paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental research, at various levels, with different approaches, and on different temporal and geographical scales. The aims are:

  • Presenting and highlighting possible project opportunities and involvement at national and international levels, with the aim of facilitating the participation of the Italian community;
  • Surveying and presenting the resources available in Italy for the study of past climates and environments, both in terms of facilities and expertise, and in terms of opportunities;
  • Discussing the most relevant themes, identifying future priorities and emerging research topics, to create and enhance synergies within the CNR and between the CNR and other Italian reality, stimulating collaboration and convergence on common research themes.

The event will be organized into thematic sessions, with invited speakers, each followed by large room for discussion:

  • Funding and involvement horizons: Overview of the funding schemes available at national and European levels for paleoclimatic projects, presentation and participation methods in working groups and international initiatives;
  • Resources and infrastructures: Presentation of physical and virtual infrastructures available in our community, access methods, and their role as catalysts for new research and collaborations;
  • Perspectives: Prominent international experts will share high-profile perspectives on the state of the art, major scientific questions, and future directions in the field of paleoclimatology. The session will be structured around three main keynotes, focusing respectively on land, sea, and ice, and will cover a wide temporal spectrum, from the deep geological past to the recent past.
