Sommario: La chiusura alla pesca di zone stabilite può proteggere alcune comunità bentoniche, ma può anche portare ad un maggiore sfruttamento delle componenti più vulnerabili dello stock e aumentare le tensioni socio-economiche dei diversi segmenti della flotta peschereccia. In alternativa a questo approccio relativo alla protezione dei vari ecosistemi marini, il progetto DEGREE propone:
• Lo sviluppo di nuovi attrezzi da pesca (divergenti, beam trawl, draghe) che determinano un ridotto impatto sul fondale e sulle comunità bentoniche ad esso associate
• Una quantificazione della potenziale riduzione dell’impatto sugli habitat e comunità bentoniche
• Una valutazione delle conseguenze socio-economiche relativa all’introduzione di questi nuovi attrezzi da pesca nelle varie marinerie.
