Summary:
This project aims at strengthening the skills of Primary and Secondary Education EU (and non-EU) teachers (including pre-service teachers, university students, other educators such as of aquaria and museums) in OL issues by collaboration of marine and freshwater scientists -in
order to empower connection between freshwater and marine ecosystems- as well as experts from educational sciences and social sciences, teachers experienced in implementation of blue projects (e.g., EU Blue Schools Network) and young ocean ambassadors (e.g., Youth4Ocean Forum, university students, youth partners from collaborative projects). Teachers of primary education who have an adequate pedagogical content knowledge (PCK), and therefore are fairly aware of methodological issues, teaching and learning strategies, will benefit from sufficient content knowledge (CK) on ocean science issues. On the other hand, secondary school teachers, especially those coming from science, who can have sufficient CK on relevant issues, will benefit from PCK. In this way, teachers of both levels will be able to promote ocean literacy to their pupils, i.e. children and youth, the future citizens and consumers, that will inevitably affect the environment.
