The video is highlighting some of the activities carried out during the ITINERIS’ EYES oceanographic campaign (July 2025). It explains the role of autonomous Argo profilers in expanding observational capabilities in the Mediterranean, from the surface down to the deepest layers of the sea.
During the campaign, researchers equipped and deployed several BioGeoChemical-Argo (BGC-Argo) floats in the Mediterranean, fitted with new sensors for observing essential biological and biogeochemical variables. These innovative technologies enable the collection of groundbreaking data on phytoplankton and zooplankton biodiversity, helping to improve our understanding of marine ecosystems and the processes that govern the functioning of the Mediterranean Sea.
The campaign was part of the EuroArgo Research Infrastructure, the European contribution to the international OneArgo program, which coordinates a global network of autonomous platforms for real-time ocean observation. The video also highlights the synergies between Argo observations and satellite data for studying the impacts of climate change on offshore marine ecosystems.
Representing CNR-ISMAR were Emanuele Organelli, Giovanni La Forgia, and Mengyu Li; representing OGS were Giorgio Dall’Olmo and Antonella Gallo. The video was produced by Space42 Europe.
The video was produced as part of the ITINERIS project—Italian Integrated Environmental Research Infrastructures System—funded by the European Union’s NextGenerationEU and the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) through the PNRR.
