DiSSCo is a European research infrastructure focused on sharing data relating to natural science collections held by various European institutions through digitization. The ultimate goal is to create a single portal for accessing digital resources and to optimize curation and management practices to ensure that all data is available according to FAIR principles (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, Reusability). DiSSCo represents the largest formal agreement between natural history museums, botanical gardens, universities, and biodiversity research institutions that preserve and curate collections; 21 European countries and 130 institutions currently participate.
ISMAR researchers contribute to DiSSCo by providing collections, optical microscopy and digitization laboratories, and expertise in the marine natural sciences, including botany (Armeli Minicante S), zoology (Camatti E, Guarneri I, Maggiore F, Sigovini M, Di Russo E), paleontology (Angeletti L, Asioli A, Capotondi L, Ferraro L, D’Onofrio R), and computer science (Giordano L, Grande V).
