INTERESSI

Paola Letardi has been active in the Material Science and surface spectroscopy, with a particular interest in the development of methodologies and instrumentation. She has acquired expertise in electrochemistry and developed the application of Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) to monitor in situ the properties of patina and protective coatings on bronze artefacts of historic and artistic interest. She has been active in national and international projects on diagnostics and monitoring for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage.

Currently, research is focused on the study of corrosion processes and methods of preservation and protection of cultural heritage metals, particularly in the marine environment; specific applications of electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques in the context of artifacts of historical interest are addressed.

ATTIVITÀ
  • She coordinated the Scientific and Organising Committee of the international workshop on conservation of Outdoor Bronze Monuments BMC2004
  • Participated in the Commission UNI-NORMAL GL 12 "Metallic Materials"
  • Part of the ICOM-CC Metal WG, was a member of the Scientific Committee of the Triennial Meeting (Metal 2004, Metal2007), and is actively involved in the network Use of Electrochemical Techniques in Metal Conservation (ETIC)
  • Took part in various diagnostic campaigns on bronze monuments (Monument to Mille, Quarto GE; Christ of the Abyss, S. Fruttuoso GE; Monument to Bartolomeo Colleoni, Venice; monument to the Duchess of Galliera, Genoa).
  • Collaborate with the University of Genoa in the Master Degree in Methods for Restoration and Conservation of Cultural Heritage
PUBBLICAZIONI

She has written over 40 scientific articles, including 8 JRC articles, 1 review article on an international book, 6 articles on international conferences in the field, 4 monographs on national books. She edited the volume Monumenti in bronzo all’aperto – esperienze di conservazione in the series "Art and Restoration" by Nardini (www.nardinieditore.it/scheda.asp?Id=662)
