Marco Faimali  has done research work from 1995 in marine ecology and in environmental impact of antifouling technologies at Institute of Metal Marine Corrosion, CNR, Genoa then became Institute of Marine Science, Genoa’s branch.

Nowadays his activity are focused on two principal research lines:

  • Biofouling and antifouling - development of new systems, with a low environmental impact, to protect materials from corrosion and marine organisms settlement.
  • Techniques to analyze environmental impacts - development of monitoring and analysis systems able to point out the effects of anthropic activities on the marine environment.

  • Project Leader of the operative unit (o.u.) ISMAR in the project EA-BIOFILMS -FP6-2003-NEST- n° 508866: “Electrochemical control of biofilm-forming micro-organisms: screening, identification and design of new knowledge-based technologies”.
  • Project Leader of the o.u. ISMAR in the project  TAXA “Definition and standardization of methodological protocols for acute and chronic toxicity assays with crustacean larval phases”, Italian Ministry of the Environment.
  • Team leader of the o.u. ISMAR in the project ECOMOS “Ecological compatibility of ships for the " Motorways of the Sea".
  • Team Leader of the project MOTA “Macrofouling monitoring and antifouling chemical treatment optimization in an ErgMed Refinery (Siracusa North Plant) cooling seawater system”.
  • Team Leader of the project BIOMON “Biomonitoring as optimization instrument of antifouling treatments in industrial plants”.

Relevant achievements:

  • Patent for electrochemical biosensor for biofilm detection, Register N°: TO2008A000274.
  • Patent for Antitumoral Activity Compounds: “Antineoplastic activity of a polimeric molecule isolated from a mediterranean marine poriforous”. Register No: MI2005a000534.

He wrote 34 scientific papers and 4 conference communications in ISI journals, 8 scientific papers in not ISI journals, 25 paper in national journals, 30 oral communication and 62 poster in international and national congress.
