INTERESTS

Hydrodynamic modeling with particular focus on the  pollutants  dispersion processes  and oil spills in coastal and lagoon areas.

Other interests:

  • Study of the degradation of organic pollutants in coastal environment;
  • Residence time and scales of transport processes characterizing lagoons and other semi-enclosed basins;
  • Ecological Modelling: Interaction between hydrodynamic processes that characterize lagoons and other     semi-enclosed basins and biota.
  • Study of the climate change impacts on the lagoons and coastal areas, through the numerical modeling  application.

ACTIVITY

Application and development of finite element numerical model SHYFEM, especially suitable for shallow water bodies like lakes or coastal area, through the implementation of new modules for the degradation of pollutants and oil spills.

  • Organizing Committee of the 41st Conference ECSA: management of administrative and financial aspects of the conference.
  • Contact of the International Ocean Institute in Italy
  • Lecture on "Management of bibliographic sources in environmental research” at the University of Brescia.

Collaboration projects:

  • Collaboration with the University of Murcia (Spain), under the project: "Study of dispersion of existing discharges in the coastal lagoon of Mar Menor, and the cost-benefit analysis of the no implementation of the appropriate corrective measures to improve water quality of this lagoon "
  • Technical Manager of the project in collaboration with ISPRA: "Updating and implementation of finite element model VL-FEM", specifically for the study and forecasting of the phenomenon of high water in the Venice Lagoon.
  • Collaboration with ARPA-Veneto for the study of accidental spillage of toxic substances in the Venice Lagoon.
  • Processing data on sediment transport in the Venice lagoon as part of Project CORILA 2004-2006.
  • Developing and implementing the model SEDTRANS96 in the Venice Lagoon (modeling study on the loss of sediments and their long-term evolution in the lagoon of Venice) Project CORILA 2004-2006.
  • Cooperation with the agency CIRPS of Rome, University of Salento and Apulia Aqueduct for the project:   “Feasibility study for  the fresh water spill of the Carpignano Salentino water treatment plant in the  “Zuddeo"  channel, tributary of the lake "Alimini Grande" (Lecce, Apulia, Italy)"
