Since graduating in Hydraulic Engineering (2000) and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering (Oceanography) in 2006 Alvise Benetazzo has gained over 10 years of experience in physical oceanography and has been with ISMAR since 2011. From 2007 through 2010, Alvise Benetazzo was Project Manager at Protecno s.r.l, a consultancy company in the field of great hydraulic engineering works. Alvise Benetazzo’s experience includes field measurements and monitoring campaigns, and the analysis and interpretation of data. His oceanographic experience has seen him undertake theoretical and numerical studies in the Adriatic and Mediterranean Seas.

Alvise Benetazzo established the use of stereo cameras (namely WASS; Wave Acquisition Stereo System) in oceanography for spatial wave measurements starting in 2003 and continuing today. WASS installations include: “Acqua Alta” oceanographic platform in the Adriatic Sea (Italy), ”Petit Minou” lighthouse in Brest (France), SCRIPPS pier in San Diego (CA, USA), Marine Hydrophysical Institute platform in the Black Sea (Ukraine), “Urania” Research Vessel.

Alvise Benetazzo worked as co-PI for the bilateral Italy-Israel project “A novel stereo image method for determination of statistics, spectra and dissipation rates of ocean waves” in years 2012-2013. In 2011, Dr. Benetazzo coordinated the IFREMER funded project “WASS measurements of sea surface waves from a moving boat”. He is Action Leader of the RITMARE Flagship Project, one of the National Research Programmes funded by the Italian Ministry of University for the period 2012-2016. In 2014, Alvise Benetazzo was chief scientist of the oceanographic campaign CARPET on board the R/V “Urania”.
