DNA-based methods for the monitoring of sea life

Echnological advances are enabling unprecedented opportunities to better understand life in marine environments. In this seminar, Dr Mirimin will talk about research conducted by his team at the Atlantic Technological University (Ireland), focussing on the use of state-of-the-art molecular (DNA) technologies for the study of species of ecological and economical importance. Applications encompass threatened marine mammal species, biodiversity monitoring (including invasive alien species and toxic microalgae) and finfish and shellfish fisheries management.
